The NRC honored 2021 "Safe Contractor of the Year" award winners at its annual conference in Phoenix on January 6, 2022. Contractors were recognized for safety performance with platinum, gold and silver awards.
Thank you to the safety award judges, David Armstrong and Kevin Brons of Commercial Insurance Associates, for their hard work on scoring the applications. Applications were evaluated based on six criteria:
1. Workers’ Compensation Experience Rating
2. OSHA Work-Related Injuries and Illnesses
3. OSHA Statistics Violations
4. Roadway Worker Protection Training
5. Safety Program Elements
6. Company Vehicle Accident Score
The NRC encourages all safety award winners and applicants to use the findings as a means to evaluate safety performance and stay apprised of industry best practices.
Congratulations to the contractors detailed below for their extensive efforts to promote and improve safety in the rail contracting industry, especially when confronted with COVID-19 pandemic challenges.

The program every year is exciting because it offers a perspective and information from mainline Class I railroads and vendor/suppliers that really isn’t accessible from any other place. The CapEx presentations are so valuable to contractors because you gain inside information that is so vital to the work that we plan to do every year.
