The National Railroad Construction and Maintenance Association’s (NRC) 2024Annual Railroad Equipment Auction generated nearly $1.2 million in sales and more than $70,000 to fund new safety training resources for member companies.
The NRC held the 20th annual event in two phases: in person on May 2 at Blackmon Auctions’ facility in Lonoke, Arkansas, and online through May 6. The combined auctions sold more than 300 items. Auction proceeds will fund future NRC safety training videos, FRA 243 model templates, and other safety training resources for use by member companies.
NRC President Ashley Wieland said the successful auction marks a tremendous milestone for the NRC. “Twenty years of successful auctions has translated into an investment of more than $1 million toward making railway construction safer. This milestone reflects a steadfast commitment by the NRC, its leadership, and its members to invest in working injury free.”
NRC Auction Committee Chairman Daniel Daugherty of RELAM expressed thanks to the many people and companies across the industry who contributed to the auction’s success. “On behalf of the committee, I want to extend our sincerest appreciation to all the sellers and buyers and for the continued support and sponsorship from Progressive Railroading. Your commitment to our cause means a great deal to us. We’re grateful for your ongoing partnership as the auction sponsor.”
Daughtery also thanked other event sponsors and participants. “We appreciate the sponsors of our before-the-auction happy hour and minor league ballpark in Little Rock: Delta Railroad Services, MOW Equipment Solutions, and RELAM. We’re also grateful to the team at Blackmon Auctions – for hosting and administering a successful and professional equipment auction – and to all of the industry professionals who attended this worthwhile networking event.”
Daugherty acknowledged the contributions of the Auction committee members for volunteering hours of time to secure consignments and donations and to catalog specifications. “We have an incredible team that pools their professional talents for the good of our industry. Thank you to everyone involved.”
Serving on the NRC’s Auction Committee gives me the opportunity to shape one of the industry’s most worthwhile events. It benefits everyone involved: sellers disposing of unneeded assets and buyers finding needed equipment. The industry benefits too because the proceeds go toward developing safety training resources for contractors.
